2010.7.29  New R&D program is launched in collaboration with Shibaura Institute of Technology.
New R&D program is coming up with the advanced reinforcement technique for ubiquitous bulk superconductors through the shape recovery of ferrous shape memory alloys.

Bulk RE-Ba-Cu-O (RE: rare earth) superconductors can be used for various engineering applications such as a superconductor motor and a flywheel energy storage system because the Bulk Superconductors can trap large magnetic fields effectively rather than those of conventional permanent magnets. They are small and thus portable to anywhere, it’s the origin of "ubiquitous". Due to the poor mechanical properties of the Bulk Superconductors, they often suffer from cracking during operation. The aim to the program is to solve the issue through the reinforcement of the Bulk Superconductors with Fe-Mn-Si shape memory alloys. The Bulk Superconductors reinforced by the shape memory alloys of which are reliable and stable ubiquitous magnets will accelerate the dissemination and engineering applications of the fantastic materials.
